Critique on This Boy's Life Project

-Marrissa had a cool painting with really vivid colors. It showed jack falling down a road and into a mess. It reminded me of when he was moving in with Dwight. It was a very interesting painting.

-Albert had a great poem that had examples from the book. It expressed Jack's different poses throughout the book and has examples of things he did. The diction was really creative and gave the poem more meaning. It was a great poem.

-Ashley Rockwell had a poster with different themes from the memoir. There were many pictures from the movie that illustrated the themes. One theme on the poster was dream big. Jack was a dreamer and he wanted to go to college and get a career. The poster was very creative.

Fact and fiction in a memoir

Where should a writer draw the line between fact and fiction in a memoir? Does Tobias Wolff lie about who he really was? Does it matter?

A memoir should be only facts that the writer remembers. There shouldn't be any made up stories or fiction in a writers memoir.

This boy's life

Do you agree with the quotes? How do people assume poses in high school? Why is corruption a part of life?
I agree both of the quotes. People pose as a type of person they want to be. There is an image in peoples minds that they try to live up to. In high school no matter who you are, you belong to a title or a specific type of person (jocks, nerds, loners, cool kids, rich kids, quiet kids, etc.). The image you try to pose yourself as makes your personality. It is impossible to not pose as something. Corruption is inevitable in life. There will always be someone who is corrupt because there is always a balance of good and evil.

Mo Money Mo Problems

The fastest way to make a lot of money is to draw it. The best way to make a lot of money is to print it. New money is new and old money is old.

Ben Stein vs Richard Dawkins

Ben Stein won the debate. He found contradictions and logical fallacies in Richard's arguments.

Intelligent Design

Intelligent Design is an assumption that things are created by an intelligent cause. People argue against evolution saying that god made genes in living things that could adapt to their environments. Evolution is just gods creation at work.

Logical Fallacies in Oral Addresses

Logical Fallacy refers to a structural flaw in an argument which renders it invalid.

Ad Hominem refers to a argument that can be attributed to the speaker's personal beliefs of background.

False Casualty - is an argument that states that an event is caused by another, without providing a logical connection between the two.

Red Herring - purposefully changing subjects to make your argument appear stronger.

Overgeneralization - an argument that is too vague or simple, so that it could be applied to anything.

Bandwagon Effect - the act of doing or believing in certain activities or ideas simple because everybody else does or believes; following a fad.

Tough Decision

One time four of my friends and I were crossing the street (J-walking) and a cop sped by with it's lights on and stopped. I was already across the street with one of my friends and and my two other friends were on the other side. The cop got out of the car and had my two friends sit down. My friend on my side didn't want to go back and maybe get a ticket. We were both under 18 and it was passed curfew. We decided to run away back to my house. Right when we were across the street from my house a cop sped by and pulled us over. We had to get in the back and he took us back to the other cop. Our friends were already gone and we had to apologize and wait in the back of the car until they let us go. I never thought it was a good idea to run from the cop. It was stupid because we didn't do anything wrong in the first place.

The cartoon is making fun of the innovation department. It is saying that they can't think outside of the box and exaggerating their inability to be creative.

The Onion Satire

The Onion has tons of satire in their stories. They have a really long and exaggerated story of how Shaquel O Neal ate a sandwich during a basketball game. They go on and on about how he played good before he ate the sandwich and then how bad he played after. It is funny how they would take the time to write about such a pointless incident.

Virginia to Norman

Dear Norman Mailer,
Your twisted views on women literature is dreadfully inaccurate. How can one say something has nothing to offer them if they haven't tried it before. Women are not all similar in their writings. I haven't read anything exciting that you have written, so must I say there is nothing your literature doesn't offer one with a
taste for a rancid tang? Many male writers I know do not write with their balls as do you. Women and Men are both human, but society has camouflaged this with opinions like yours. I do thank you for your criticism though. It will motivate me to write masterpieces that will convince people like you that women are not inferior to men. That is what one day I hope to see. But this life, this society, this time is not for me. I wish to die. Good bye Norm.
sincerely,
Virginia Woolf

Norman Mailer

Norman despises women literature. He is stubborn in his opinion that there is nothing "exciting" a women writes about and it is very vague. He makes this decision about women writers and hasn't even read all women literature. He stereotypes women from the books he has read. Women can be just as good writers as men.

the hours

1.Describe the three female characters in great detail? What do they have in common?
How do they differ? How does their era influence who they are?
Viginia Woolf was a writer in Richmond, England in 1928. Laura Brown was a depressed house wife in Los Angelas in 1950. Clarissa Vaughan was a book editor in New York in 2000. They are all very depressed and stressed out. Virginia is stressed about writing the book and is depressed about living in Richmond. Laura is stressed about making the cake and is depressed with her life. Clarissa is stressed about the party she is throwing and is depressed because of Richard.

Story of an Hour

Ethan Frome can be compared to Kate Chopin. They both have similarities, but there are some differences about them too. Ethan Frome is a guy and Kate Chopin is a girl. They are both in relationships with other people and have learned a lot of knowledge about relationships.
